Embrace the beauty of autumn with this beautiful 20 km Moved hike between the old-world towns of Hastings and Rye.
Meeting at Hastings at 10 am to make the best of the light, we’ll nip into one of the town’s cafes to fuel up before we head onto the coastal path and into Hastings Country Park. Here we’ll climb up onto the cliffs for spectacular sea views stretching out across the Channel.
Dipping in and out of woodland as we go, we’ll be treated to those gorgeous coastal views for most of the day, eventually turning inland to join the Royal Military Canal. We’ll follow this pretty waterway through the wilds of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, eventually meeting the River Bride, which we’ll trace all the way into Rye for our finish.
For those who don’t fancy the whole stretch, there’s the option to catch a bus from Fairlight Cove—roughly 5 miles in—back to Hastings, once every hour.
This is a long hike with a fair amount of elevation at the start, making it moderately challenging. It’s also a long day, so come prepared with lunch, snacks and at least two to three litres of water.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Warm, comfortable layers and a hat if it’s chilly
Waterproofs if it’s raining
Comfy trainers if it’s dry, waterproof footwear if it’s wet
