Hi, I’m Sophie.
I’m a multi-ultramarathoner, thru-hiker, urban and trail-walker, writer and environmentalist. But most importantly, I'm a human being for whom long-distance hiking has become life’s most valuable therapy.
I really 'found’ walking a decade ago. It was a spontaneous response to layered personal trauma that left me in a state of complete overwhelm. Walking became my safe refuge; the 'place' I could return to when I needed space to think and find my way forward.
Since then, I've developed a taste for hiking ultramarathons — including one in the dust bowl of the Sahara. Which is where Moved was born, out of a teary breakdown on the train back into London.
I couldn't believe I had to return to a life that felt so disconnected after such a powerfully reconnecting experience. One in which I'd formed a fast, genuine, supportive sisterhood with other women while the fellas strategised how to win.
Endurance hiking is filled with moments of awe, unimaginable beauty, laughter, tears and bonds forged in the most unique of circumstances. It's being alive. But it’s hard. It hurts, physically and mentally. It forces you to find resilience you didn’t know you had.
And that’s the magic of it. I know now that when we reconnect with ourselves and each other in Nature and push through the boundaries we imagined we had, most of us are so much stronger than we think.
