What better way to celebrate Halloween and the splendour of autumn than stepping into the woods together for this spectacular late-October walk?
I’ve spent a lot of time meandering through Blean Woods, and my absolute favourite time of year to visit is as the leaves take on their autumnal colours. It’s honestly breathtaking, and I’d love to share this very special trail with you before you make your way to your Halloween celebrations!
Depending on the weather, we can bed down in the leaves for an autumnal woodland picnic lunch. Or, if it’s raining, we can eat as we walk, taking shelter under our brollies.
This is a gentle walk on mostly flat ground. But there are no amenities in Blean Woods, so come prepared with lunch, snacks and at least two litres of water—or a flask of tea if it’s chilly!
WHAT TO WEAR:
Warm, comfortable layers and a hat if it’s cold
Waterproofs and an umbrella if it’s raining
Comfy trainers if it’s dry, waterproof footwear if it’s wet—Blean can get very boggy after a lot of rain!
GETTING THERE:
Blean is accessible by a short bus ride from Canterbury bus station or Westgate Towers. You can also walk there in around 30 minutes. And there’s free parking available at the RSPB car park in the woods.
